The Candy Cane

"When I was a child the candy cane was our favorite Christmas candy. The festive colors and the fresh peppermint flavor welcomed the season. Now I use candy canes to decorate my Christmas tree. Why is the candy cane such an important part of Christmas?

The shape is like a shepherd's staff and upside it's a J, which stands for Jesus.

The white candy represents the sinless purity of Jesus, the Son of God.

The red stripes represent the suffering and the blood Jesus shed on the cross to redeem us from our sins.

The peppermint flavor reminds us of the spices presented to Jesus by the wise men. The sweet candy symbolizes the sweetest gift of all, His eternal love for us.

As we enjoy our candy canes this Christmas may they remind us of the true reason we celebrate: The birth of Jesus Christ, our Savior, who was born and died to show us love and the way to everlasting life."
